Emma’s Calendar

Emma fills in activities on her calendar

Emma got the idea for this activity from a play date with a friend. She noticed a calendar on her friend’s wall, and decided to come home and make one. I love that she didn’t even think to ask to buy one!

Emma makes a calendar

I helped her draw the lines and put the days of the week and numbers in order, but otherwise she did this on her own. I love the playground illustration on the right.

She wanted to write what happened every day on her calendar, but writing is still quite challenging for her and she got frustrated and gave up. She also had a hard time working with such a large sheet of paper (actually three sheets that she taped together). We decided to get her a blank calendar for Christmas, that she can decorate and notate to her heart’s delight!

  1. I am also impressed with the fact that Emma thought to make a calendar instead of buy one. Gotta love that.

I noticed in your comments that you found a calendar with the grid drawn up and a blank page. That is awesome. Such a neat idea for children to be able to decorate and personalise their own calendars. Emma will have such creative ideas for her calendar.

What a great idea for a Christmas gift — she will LOVE it!

I also love that she only thought to make one, and didn’t even think about buying one! :-)

  3. I love the top picture! You can tell she is really concentrating and working hard. That sounds like a great gift! I’m sure she’ll love that.

Also, I’m your newest follower. I honestly can’t believe I hadn’t already. I get distracted and then lose track. I was wondering why I hadn’t seen your new posts!

  4. How cool that she made one! A blank one for Christmas is such a great idea. Although, if she’s ever in the market to buy one, I know a place to get a beautiful one. :)

  5. It’s so awesome that Emma is so self-directed and can make things instead of buying them. She is just like her mom :)

That’s fantastic that Emma took the idea and re-created it at home with a little help! Very nice result!!

  7. So cute! I love seeing kids take initiative!

And seeing this reminded me that I haven’t yet posted about our recent birthday gift — a calendar (store-bought) and stickers (home-made, or home-PRINTED at least), for holidays, dr appts, no school, etc. Seems like kids these days love calendars, but I wasn’t sure how it would work for a kid whose birthday isn’t near January.

Well, you gave me a great idea — blank calendars (where we fill the dates in for them)! Then they can start them right away, no matter what month their birthday is!

    1. We found blank 2012 ones (with dates on the grid but room for illustrations opposite) for $2 at Michaels…
