I am a co-host for the 2016-17 Virtual Book Club for Kids season. This post is your reference for all of the books (along with suggested alternates if you can’t find the featured book) and activities for this season’s book club.
2016-17 VIRTUAL BOOK CLUB FOR KIDS BOOKS
Do you want to get ready for future weeks? Here are the books for the rest of September and October! All of these books should be available at your local library, but you can also pick a different picture book that works for that week’s theme. I’ve included one alternate that my family loves for each week.
Featured Book: Bear Says Thanks by Karma Wilson. Thanksgiving Is for Giving Thanks by Margaret Sutherland and The Thankful Book by Todd Parr are great alternates for this week’s theme. Here are some wonderful gratitude activities for kids from this week.
Featured Book: Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs by Mo Willems. When Dinosaurs Came with Everything by Elise Broach is a family favorite that would work beautifully with this theme. Here are this week’s dinosaur-themed learning activities.
Featured Book: Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site by Sherri Duskey Rinker. Alphabet Under Construction by Denise Fleming and B Is for Bulldozer: A Construction ABC by June Sobel are great alternatives for this theme. Here are this week’s construction themed learning activities.
Featured Book: The Gingerbread Man by Jim Aylesworth. Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett and Gingerbread Mouse by Katy Bratun are two fun alternatives for this theme. Here are this week’s gingerbread themed learning activities.
Featured Book: The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg. Silver Packages: An Appalachian Christmas Story is a touching alternative choice for this theme, based on a true story. Check out this week’s train themed learning activities.
Theme: Dr. Seuss
Featured Book: Pick your favorite Dr. Seuss book!
